| About Hamrun: |
Hamrun is an inland city located south-west of Valletta
and Floriana and borders of Pieta, Qormi, Santa Venera,
Marsa, and Msida. The bus route from Valletta to Birkirkara
runs through the middle of Hamrun and travels along
Hamrun's main thoroughfare.
Hamrun started as a village called "Ta' Braksja"
around 1500. Its present name was the nickname of a
local family and was adopted around 1848. When the church
established a new parish in the village in 1881, it
also adopted the name Hamrun. The population of Hamrun
grew rapidly from around 4,906 people to 22,086 between
1881 and 1931. |
